Evolution of a Fire!

31 03 2007

Had a meeting at 1pm today and looked out the office window and saw that the mountain in our own backyard was on fire.  It was pretty amazing how quickly this fire spread.  Anyway, we practically had a bird’s eye view of the mayhem happening close by.  Here are some photos of progression of the blaze.  I left work a little early and pretty much all of Burbank was blanketed with ash.  This is the second time this week I’ve come across things on fire!  Weird.

Arrrggghh!

 Pirate Ship!
Here’s a cool photo I snapped on my way back to the parking garage at the Studio lot the other day.  I guess Pirates are in need of vehicles to ravage and plunder.

Burning Porsche

As many of you know, my commute is roughly 50 miles one way. I’ve been traveling Southern California freeways to get around since I started driving at the age of 16. Although I’m immune to what can be a mundane driving experience, I ran into this cool looking accident yesterday. Now don’t get me wrong, I hope everyone involved in this accident is safe and sound. I just think it’s rare to see a Porsche fully engulfed with flames on the side of the freeway. I whipped out my camera phone and snapped a shot of the burning pile of German engineering (see below). I noticed other people with camera phones in other vehicles do the same. I guess they were intrigued as much as I was. Well, it made for an interesting story to tell at the office. I mentioned to my co-workers that I was racing my Benz against this Porsche and that the Porsche couldn’t handle it so it burst into flames. The story didn’t fly too well, nor was it remotely entertaining as I had hoped. I guess that’s what a long commute does to someone. It sucks anything witty out of the mind. Luckily, my quick photographer instincts kicked in and still remains intact!

Welcome Back!

20 03 2007

OK! The migration of servers from one hosting company to another is complete — as well as my migration from one place to another. The move in both cases were riddled with problems. My previous hosting company could never get their act together. Speaking to someone in their customer support department was like extracting the hairy stomach lining from a meerkat and making a hard drive out of it. Yeah, impossible! Which brings me to my move. It took nine hours to move out of my old place — and that’s with professional movers, who ended up charging me three times the quoted amount. Yes, it was a huge Mongolian cluster-fu*k! (What does that mean, really?!) Did I mention they showed up on the wrong day? Never really quite understood why something so simple could end up being so complicated and frustrating. Well, the dust has settled and life (at least this website) must move on! One cool thing came out of this though… It’s a little project I did during the move. I recently downloaded a Mac OSX application called Gawker. It’s an opensource time lapse photography program. I booted up my MacBook Pro and set it on a high shelf. Set the camera to take one shot/frame every minute. Below is the masterpiece of my hard labor over the course of three days. Moving bites — at least I have proof!

Welcome to my site and enjoy your stay…
